Homer Allen Montooth

HOMER ALLEN MONTOOTH, a lifelong resident in the Fenders/Luttrell community of Loudon County passed away Wednesday March 3, 2010 at Woods Nursing Home in Sweetwater. “Papaw Homer” or “Pokey” as his family & many friends called him was born July 3, 1921 the fifth child of Edna & Nute Montooth. Papaw was 88 at the time of his death & had been an avid UT foothball fan for many years Papaw made a profession of faith & has now gone to be with his Savior. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Vareece Kizer Montooth & a young son Jimmy as well as his parents and siblings- Gladys Montooth Bowman, John Elmer, Carl, H.L., & Roy “Coot” Montooth. Papaw & Mamaw’s marriage of 54 years brought to them a large family of children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Their children are Wayne & Donna Montooth of Loudon, Larry & Rhonda Montooth, Doug & Jody Montooth & Eddie & Trudy Montooth all of Sweetwater. Their grandchildren & families are Randy, Kelli & Alli Montooth, Kevin & Kelly Montooth, Kim & Karl Ackermann, Ashley Russell, Brandon & Mallory Russell, Cindy Montooth, Greg, Patti, Reece, & Aaden Montooth & Clay Jenkins, Julie, Chris & Lucas Gourley, Seth, Kimberly & Boston Montooth, Patty and Michael Adams, Maykala & Emmalee Wymer, Steve Paxson, Michael, Angie, & Makayla Key, Alyson, RJ, Devin & Madisyn Sewell. Papaw is also expecting 3 great-grand-children in the very near future. Other surviving family members are a sister Frances Kyle & sisters in law Doris Montooth & Pauline Dotson as well as several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends March 5, 2010 from 5 to 8 PM at Kyker Funeral Home, Sweetwater, with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 PM in Kyker’s Chapel with Rev. Joe Watson officiating. Interment will be Saturday March 6, 2010 at 4:00 PM in the Fenders United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brandon Russell, Randy, Kevin, Greg, Seth, & Gary Montooth. The family would also like to express their very,very sincere thanks, gratitude, & appreciation to the staff and all who were involved in the care of “Pokey” while he was at Woods Nursing Home.
