Evelyn Martin McPherson – of Kingston TN, died on Thursday, February 25, 2010.
Evelyn was born in Greenville, South Carolina on January 14, 1920 as the oldest child of Leonard Clark Martin and his wife, Lucy Delk Martin.
She had a lifelong devotion to music and was an active member of the Knoxville Women’s Chorus for many years. She was a member of and sang in the church choir at South Knoxville Baptist church and Edisto Beach Baptist Church in South Carolina. Evelyn was happiest when she was singing.
Following the death of her husband, Jack H. McPherson in 1987, Evelyn moved to Edisto Beach South Carolina. There she married Harvie S. Lybrand and lived there for 20 years. At Edisto, she was active member of the International Order of King’s Daughters and Sons. She was also a Charter member of the Edistoics. She has many friends where she supported the music ministries at the Baptist, Presbyterian and Episcopal churches on the island. Her life was a blessing to anyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Clark Martin; mother, Lucy Delk Martin; brother, William Dode Martin; son, Patrick Cleveland McPherson; loving husbands Jack H. McPherson and Harvie S. Lybrand. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Jack H. McPherson, Jr. and Jane F. McPherson; stepsons, David Lybrand and Sam Lybrand; grandchildren and spouses, Heather M. Bradley and Richard E. Bradley, Kelly M. Altom and Eric K. Altom, Jack H. McPherson, III and Courtney B. McPherson; 6 great grandchildren; and many loved cousins. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law.
The family will receive friends 12:00-2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Kyker Funeral Home, Kingston, TN. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 P.M. with Dr. Charles G. Works officiating. Interment will follow at the family plot in Woodlawn Cemetery, Knoxville, TN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Edisto Beach Baptist Church or First Baptist Church, Kingston. Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston in charge of arrangements.
