Wallace Clifford Austin

Wallace Clifford Austin of Harriman originally from Dayton, Tn. Left the earthly bonds to be with his maker on February 22, 2010. Those who knew him will deeply miss his smile, laugh, warm welcome when he saw them. He had a wonderful life and will greatly missed by all that knew him. Wallace moved to Roane County in the 1940’s where he worked for Burlington Industries for thirty plus years, he also was the manager of both the Harriman City Pool and the Emory Golf & Country Club Pool for numerous years. Where he taught a large percentage of Roane Countians their first swimming lessons. He was the co-owner of the Minute Store at Caney Creek in Midtown. An Eagle Scout and former Scout master, a Little League Baseball coach, and was on the Harriman City School Board for twenty-two years. He also loved his church and could be seen ushering the same door at South Harriman Baptist Church for over twenty years, never missing a Sunday unless his health would not allow him too. During his retirement years he worked part-time for twenty years at Kroger in Midtown. Where he was deeply loved and appreciated by all who worked with and all that served by him.  I know that Mr. Austin will be greatly missed. He was my Scout Master, and a very good one. I remember going into the minute store at Midtown. I know that he is with Jesus now.

Richard, Terry, and Allen, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. He was a special man in my life and he was great to the youth of Harriman in many many ways. I saw him at church most every Sunday. His smile and his handshake was something I always looked forward to.

I always look forward to see him and his smile, I can't remember a time that we wasn't smiling....He was so important to me when I played basketball for Harriman in the 65,66,67..He as one of the prople that bought the Girls and Boys Team Blue Blazer when we traveled to away game, back then the girls had to wear skirts or a dress to school.I remember all of the dances he had for us after the bll games. He is going to be missed by so many people, but I know the family is really going to miss him. I pray for the family....Always remember he was loved...God Bless .... ..I was Blessed to have had Wally in my life....

I want to say that I was blessed to have Wallace in my life. He helped raise all of us kids in Harriman. He also helped raise after we were adults. His smile was infectious. He truly was a blessing to know all these years.

I have wonderful memories of Wallace teaching me to swim and jump from the high dive.  My love for swimming is due to him having such an interest in teaching us kids at the City Pool.  I am sure God will carry you through this difficult time.  God bless.
